Now Dock 0.3 - youtube video

I want to thank everyone who helped me with this release and all the community around this effort that sent patches, made a huge debugging effort to improve the experience and in the end encouraged all the project's contributors!!

Now Dock Plasmoid New Features:
  • support different launchers per activity
  • window previews
  • highlight windows
  • anchor your plasmoid wherever you want in order to provide proper zoom animation
  • visual indicator for tasks progress (e.g. copying files)
  • change infrastructure for icons in order to solve many issues with old implementation and provide no blurred icons always
  • configure animation duration
  • work smoothly with Now Dock Panel (v0.3)
  • support Plasma 5.8

task progress (copying a file)

Now Dock Panel hovering widgets

Now Dock Panel Features:
  • Now Dock Panel Configuration Window
  • add plasmoids and animate them
  • lock plasmoids in order not to animate
  • automatic categorizing of plasmoids that probably would break the hovering animation
  •  automatic mode to grow or shrink the icons based on the length or height of the panel

  1. When trying to install Now Dock Plasmoid via the 'get new widgets' thing, clicking on 'Install' button opens a menu with two items - plasma-transparent-panel.py.v0.2.2.tar.gz and plasmoid-nowdock-v0.3.0.plasmoid.
I can choose only one of these. What is the other option?

    1. Hello Syam,
the plasmoid is the file plasmoid-nowdock-v0.3.0.plasmoid,

the other file: plasma-transparent-panel.py.v0.2.2.tar.gz is a python gui that you can download for the store.kde.org website not from inside Get New Stuff. That python gui gives you a way in order to make a panel in plasma transparent based on the theme you are using...

  3. Great work!! can I ask you to add recently opened files to each of the program icons if you right click on them? And the ability to pin some of those files to the icon in the righ click context menu (much like W7 taskbar?)

    1. The first one is already there...
Right clicking any task icon shows your recent files based on your activity!!!

The second one to pin a file, that would be also possible through activities... In Plasma any file can be pinned to an activity.. We could use that infrastructure to provide that functionality...

Please open a ticket for this in:
      https://github.com/psifidotos/nowdock-plasmoid/issues

    2. Actually your second request can already be supported...

Add in your Now Dock Panel the plasmoid that shows the files of a directory (I cant remember its name)... For its settings you can choose instead of the contents of the directory to show you the files that have been pinned with the current activity...

  4. First, it is really great to have a native plasma dock without gtk dependencies. Lost the hope almost.
But i ever used my docks vertically, so i flipped the plasmoid. That is working so far unless the size of the plasmoid now needs half of the desktop to be shown at correct position on left side. See attached image:

I hope you'll find a solution to fix this. Anyway great work!

    3. no worries!! :) I hope you will find it useful...

There is a chance that from Plasma 5.9 the python script wont be needed but this is on Plasma developers hands...

    1. You just need to use:
      https://dl.opendesktop.org/api/files/download/id/1473029935/plasma-transparent-panel.py.v0.2.2.tar.gz

      and click at: transparent.sh
in order to produce a plasma theme that has the specific panel transparent...

After you have chosen the new theme, you must disable from your Desktop Effects:

      - Blur
      - Background Contrast
